Virago TCI Ignition Module Failure Symptoms.

The most common symptom seems to be that the bike will start OK but while cold one of the cylinders will misfire at around 2000 to 3000 RPM or so. You may see the tach jump or wander while this is happening. After riding for about 10 minutes the bike warms up and begins to run strong. Over time the problem becomes more pronounced and eventually the bike is undrivable.

One of the side effects of this problem may be a high failure rate for spark plugs. You may find that you have to install new plugs each time you go for a ride.

You may also experience a sudden burst of power when you reach 3500 RPM or so.

You may instead find that the bike runs great while it is cold and then begins to fail, misfire, lose a cylinder altogether after it has warmed up.

The bike probably is not idling as strong as it could either. This is a subtle problem that you won't notice until you get your reconditioned unit back and start it up for the first time. This happens because the spark is not as strong as it should be. The engine may not start quite as nicely as it once did as a result of this loss of spark power.
